Abstract

The “cursinhos” have an important role in the Continuing Education at UNESP. Their main goal is to provide theoretical support to low-income students in order to help them enter university or technical professional courses. The growing investment in this project, mainly in pedagogical training and infrastructure, has attracted students from various social groups. Thus, the poor students’ vacancies to these preparatory courses might be taken by students who don´t come from low-income families. This study traced the socio- economic profile of 472 out of 733 who have applied for vacancies through online applications. The result shows the importance of considering the social-economic information in the selection of the candidates, if poor students are to benefit from this program.
