DISCUSSING PREJUDICE: EXPERIENCE REPORT WITHSCHOLL SIXTH YEARSTUDENTS

Abstract

Prejudice, despite being something quite common, is still a little discussed topic. Thinking about it, the project Educação Ambiental na Escola Municipal Pedro Ferraz Neto em São Gabriel-RS, developed with the students of the sixth year, adopted a new strategy to discuss this issue as controversial. The objective of this study was to report the use of workshops as a teaching tool aiming to students reflect and discuss about prejudice. The playful format in activities aimed at contributing to the formation of more critical individuals, solidarity and ethical, to relate the themes of their day to day. The workshops were conducted in three different places. In the activity "1", using a classroom, with students sitting in a circle, they received information about famous people who were / are considered minorities, such as women, homosexuals, black  and disabled people. The "2" activity, in the schoolyard, with students in a circle, reflected on the discomfort when dealing with unfamiliar situations. During the activity "3", the students faced situations in which some disabled people face in their day-to-day. The results showed that the students liked the theme developed in the workshops, because this type of action allows student reflection and respect in relation to the unknown, combining reality with practice. It is concluded that the workshops developed had great response from the students, allowing them to reflect and discuss about prejudice.
