Abstract

Neuroscience is an important area to the educational process, both to teachers and students, since it is directly related to the learning processes. With the idea of spreading the neuroscience concepts and expanding scientific knowledge beyond the university, the POPNEURO outreach program was created. This article provides a report about two actions developed during the program's context, covering the subjects "brain health" and "brain plasticity", in order to stimulate the adoption of healthy habits and to provide a better understanding of the human brain characteristics. The actions occurred in four public schools of Uruguaiana-RS, covering 116 and 112 students, respectively, and five teachers. Each action involved a brief theoretical explanation and practical activities that provided greater understanding of the subject. The actions were successful and because they aroused great interest on the part of the students and educators in learning about scientific knowledge that is usually restricted to the university environment. Thus, we verify that the objectives of the actions were achieved, providing awareness about brain health and promoting the popularization of neuroscience in the school environment.
