Abstract

This project aimed to prepare and use plays and folders to inform the population about the major dog and cat parasites with zoonotic characteristics, and to encourage children to adopt hygienic measures for the prevention and control of these parasites, in Bom Jesus - PI. The project involved 13 students who prepared the brochures, plays, essays and presentations, always under the supervision of teachers, who assisted in elaborating the theoretical content and presentation so that information could be presented in a simple and fun way. The plays were performed in 16 schools in the town of Bom Jesus, for students aged 4-16 years to an audience that ranged from 50 to 100 children per performance. An immediate result was observed during presentations, where children enthusiastically repeated all forms of infection by animal parasites and how to prevent the contamination. Students also learned immediately that certain parasites are zoonosis and how to avoid contamination. The use of plays with the distribution of folders was found to be a great aid for the population for alerting them regarding the risks that parasitized animals bring to public health, as the children received and learned the information and took the folders to their homes, they began to try to change their parents’ attitudes.
